Guide · Website fixes
My website is slow: what can I do?
A website that takes several seconds to show on a phone loses visitors before they read the first line. The good news: the causes are almost always the same, and many can be fixed without rebuilding the site.

01
First, measure.
Don’t trust your desktop computer: test on a phone, on 4G, like your visitors. Then measure:
- Tramevia’s “Check your website” tool checks page weight, response time and SEO basics in a few seconds;
- PageSpeed Insights, Google’s free tool, measures the Core Web Vitals.
Google’s thresholds for a good experience: the main content shown (LCP) in under 2.5 seconds, a response to interactions (INP) in under 200 milliseconds, and a layout shift (CLS) below 0.1.
02
The most common causes.
- Images that are too heavy: a 4 MB photo shown 400 pixels wide.
- Too many third-party scripts: chat window, carousel, tracking tools, social widgets.
- Too many plugins on WordPress, some loaded on every page.
- Fonts: many of them, or loaded from several services.
- Slow hosting, or no cache and compression.
03
Simple fixes.
- Resize images and convert them to WebP or AVIF.
- Load images further down the page only when the visitor gets there.
- Remove plugins and scripts that are no longer used.
- Limit fonts to one or two families, hosted on your own site.
- Turn on caching and compression with your host.
Done in the right order, these fixes are often enough to make a site noticeably faster.
04
When to call someone in.
If the site is built on a heavy theme, if one fix breaks another, or if you lack the time, a written diagnosis saves time: it lists the issues by priority and says what is worth fixing.
At Tramevia, website fixes start at €149, with a free first look at the page concerned. Changes are made on a copy, checked on desktop and phone, then explained.

Questions.
Q
Do I need a new website?
Rarely. Most slowness comes from images, scripts and plugins, which can be fixed on the existing site.
Q
My site runs on WordPress. Do you work on it?
Yes, on the HTML, CSS or JavaScript of WordPress, Shopify or similar themes when the code is accessible. Servers and databases need a separate study.
Q
Does speed matter for Google?
Yes: the Core Web Vitals are part of the page experience signals. Above all, a fast site keeps its visitors.
