Sentier social network, for a community of hikers (fictional app, invented data)
A social network the size of a community.
An outing feed with the map, the climb and the weather at the top, twelve trails to filter, group outings, messages and notifications: the whole app, in French and in English, runs in your browser.
Custom tool, price agreed before we start

A community does not need a giant. It needs a tool of its own.

Sunday 1 November · 7:00
Eagles’ Ridge at sunrise
Meeting point at the Fruitière car park, 1,240 m. Straight up from the start, two litres of water, a fleece for the summit. Back around 1 pm.
6 going · 2 places leftOrganised by Inès Carvalho · simulation: nothing is sent.
Outings fill up in one tap.
Every outing has a meeting point, a number of places and the list of who is going. A member signs up, changes their mind, and the counter follows, without a single e-mail to the organiser.
Sign up: the place is taken.

01
Every trail has its page, its map and its profile.
Distance, climb, duration, start point, season and members’ reviews, with the route and the elevation profile drawn. The “I did it” button adds the outing to the member’s log, which counts their kilometres and unlocks their badges.

02
Messages, not noise.
One-to-one or group conversations, replies under comments, and notifications you read and mark in one go. In the demonstration the replies are scripted; in your tool, your members answer.

03
An identity of its own, not a template.
Blaze yellow on slate, contour lines, an illustration drawn for every valley: Sentier looks like no existing network. The visitor sees a real post and three trails before even signing in, with a pre-filled demo account.
What was built.
The feed
Twenty-four posts with text, picture, tagged trail and the weather at the top. Animated like, comments and replies, save, share by link. A post you write appears at the top of the feed.
The members
Your profile and eight members, with statistics, badges and an outing log. Following or unfollowing a member changes the feed; the “Everyone” feed shows the whole community.
The trails
Twelve trail pages with search, filters by level and distance, sorting and members’ reviews. “I did it” updates the log and the profile counters.
The outings
Five upcoming outings with meeting point, places and who is going. Join and leave in one tap, reflected in the right-hand column and on the profile.
Messages and notifications
Four conversations, one of them a group, with scripted replies. Nine notifications with a counter, a jump to the item concerned and “mark all read”.
Everything stays with the visitor
Every action is kept in the browser and reset with one button. Three columns on a computer, a tab bar on a phone, reduced motion when the system asks for it.

Sentier is a fictional community created for this case study. The members, trails, places, messages and figures are invented; the pictures are illustrations drawn for the demonstration. No data entered is sent or stored: everything stays in the visitor’s browser.
